Belonging to the 'Rich' category, Horai is among Ippodo's higher-grade matchas. It has a mellow, balanced flavor, with just the right amount of umami. It has a complex, bittersweet taste, like spring vegetables and pairs well with dark chocolate and orange peels. It can be taken as usucha, koicha, matcha latte, or iced matcha.

We recommend this as your first taste of Ippodo Matcha.

Horai is a balanced and approachable matcha with a unique brightness and barely any astringency. We often take it as usucha or as an iced matcha latte with oat milk.

Keep away from heat. We highly recommend that you refrigerate your matcha to maintain its freshness.

Hot (Usucha)
70ml 80ÂșC Water
1.5g Horai no Mukashi

> Sift and strain 1.5g of Horai no Mukashi into a chawan (bowl). Add 30ml of 80ÂșC water first and whisk with a chasen (whisk) in a W motion to mix together. Add the remaining 40ml of 80ÂșC water into the chasen and whisk once more. Whisking motion should start in the middle of the liquid and ending at the surface.

* Recommended to pre-heat the chawan (bowl) and the chasen (whisk). Chawan should be wiped dry before adding matcha into it. Using a strainer to sift the matcha will help avoid clumps while whisking and is highly recommended. To enjoy the foam and temperature of the usucha, we encourage you to drink it straight from the chawan.

Iced (Usucha)
30ml 80ÂșC Water
1.5g Horai no Mukashi
30ml Room Temperature Water
Ice

> Sift and strain 1.5g of Horai no Mukashi into a chawan (bowl). Add 30ml of 80ÂșC water first and whisk with a chasen (whisk) in a W motion to mix together. Add the remaining 30ml of room temperature water into the chasen and whisk once more. Whisking motion should start in the middle of the liquid and ending at the surface. After whisking, transfer the usucha to a glass with ice. Stir it 3-4 times before enjoying.

Oat Latte
40ml 80ÂșC Water
2g Horai no Mukashi
120ml Oat Milk
Ice

>Sift and strain 2g of Horai no Mukashi into a chawan (bowl). Add 40ml of 80ÂșC water first and whisk with a chasen (whisk) in a W motion to mix together. Whisking motion should start in the middle of the liquid and ending at the surface. After whisking, transfer the usucha to a glass with 120ml oat milk and ice. Stir it 3-4 times before enjoying.
